The Ninth official Miss Danville Pageant was held tonight at the George Washington High
(TAKE FILM)
School in Danville. Eleven young women from the area competed for the title. Five singing acts, four dancers, one monologuist, and one piano and organ instrumentalist presented their talents for the judges and the crowd. As in similar contests held across the state, its an official Miss America pageant preliminary, and the winner goes to to compete in the Miss Virginia pageant. Last years Miss Danville, Penny Turner, a vocalist, was third runner-up in the Miss Virginia pageant. Miss Turner won a scholarship, with which she is now attending Averett College.
