High school senior girls describe their experiences in America’s Junior Miss beauty pageant in 1970.
Showcasing 1970’s fashion, hair and makeup styles of the period.

Here we see ordinary high school girls who wish to aim high. From cheerleaders to the most studious, many entered the Junior Miss contest to try and get ahead.
Unlike most beauty pageants, the Junior Miss contest, now known as Distinguished Young Women, is a scholarship

The artist was super talented I hope she never stopped and only got better with time🎨🖌
I was 19 years old with two toddlers in 1970. Most of the contestants and the winner have, if not all, reached their mid-60's. I would like to see a follow up to the participants to compare their outcomes to my own. Did such distinction really put them ahead?
They sound like Ram Dass
Her accent at about 1:15 is pretty heavy, like Ellie Mae Clampett
I left school in 1974 at sixteen, that's the normal age there.
I worked as a hairdressers Apprentice and after I paid my way to my Mum I had nothing left!
Disco was what I lived for though. Friday and Saturday nights!.
I sort of envy these girls though, what a nice life they had.
70’s was when the kids started being bad from here it only gets worse…
This was a year before I was born and my mom was around the same age as these girls. Kind of crazy to think about!
Ah…. 1970, I just saw the end….. wow, seems even older
I think this is later 60s
There is a music video today . . .using several clips of this video . . .What is that music video?? What is that band/song???
This reminds me of the 1975 movie named Smile starring Bruce Dern.

How I would love to have lived in that time, fashion, dialect and elegance of those times are another level
Woo! Go Arizona!! 😉
I love the accent/dialect that girls had in the 50’s – 70’s. What happened?
magical times!
The "flip" hairstyle was mid-1960s. I don't recall seeing it in the 1970s. Even if this was 1970, these girls were a bit behind the curve as far as hairstyles!
What was the name of that song that used bits of this video?
I love that, Jr. Miss.
I love that these girls actually look like teens, not like teens trying to look like grown ups
2:42: the one with the yellow and white ensemble looks like that girl from "Girl, interrupted", the one who lied all the time
Junior Miss…Now I want Junior Mints! 😀
I'm in love with this channel
Super southern!
Watching these videos on June 1, 2020. Corona virus, lockdown, quarantine and now rioting and looting across the United States. It's nice to see some wholesomeness and sanity in days gone by.
Why is there a 70’s accent?
I was in high school in the 70s… this looks like it was from the 60s
Can someone tell me how they got their hair to be fluffy and "together"? I mean, it is not stringy and it is so bouncy! If anyone knows, please share!
WooHoo AZ won! 🙂 (we moved to Tucson in 1968 from NJ. …(I was just a little kid ) The next year NJ won! Heres a list 1958 – 2018 of winners & mini bios. http://distinguishedyw.org/programs/national-finals/past-national-winners/
The first monologue, she set it to Christmas music lol, but it fit.
Opened with a chick high off her ass while trying to perform. 🤣🤣🤣
