TEL AVIV: AUDITIONS HELD FOR “MISS TRANS ISRAEL” BEAUTY PAGEANT
Nearly 30 trans women strutted down the catwalk in skinny jeans, crop tops and stiletto heels on Thursday (3 MARCH 2016) at a Tel Aviv club for the chance to enter the first ever “Miss Trans Israel” beauty pageant.
Tel Aviv has emerged as one of the world’s most gay-friendly travel destinations.
The Israeli city stands in sharp contrast to most of the rest of the Middle East, where gays are persecuted or even killed in some places.
Coming from an Arab-Catholic family in Nazareth, 21-year-old Talleen Abu Hanna said she came to the auditions because she wants to do something with her life.
Abu Hanna said her family accepts and supports her.
Competition organizer Israela Stephanie Lev said that an “LGBT revolution” has led more people to be more accepting of tansgender individuals.
The competition will take place in May 2016 and the winner will represent Israel at a Miss Trans Star International pageant to be held in Spain in August.
