Cheslie Kryst, the 2019 winner of the Miss USA pageant and a correspondent for the entertainment news program “Extra,” has died at age 30.
Police said Kryst jumped from a Manhattan apartment building and was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday morning. Her family confirmed her death in a statement.
“In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie. Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength,” her family said.
“Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host on EXTRA. But most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague – we know her impact will live on,” her family said.
Kryst, a former Division I athlete and North Carolina attorney, won the Miss USA pageant in May, 2019, and competed in the Miss Universe pageant that year.
When Kryst was crowned, it marked more than a personal triumph: It meant thatfor the first time, three Black women were the reigning Miss USA, Miss Teen USA and Miss America.
In a statement Sunday, the nationally syndicated program “Extra” described Kryst as “not just a vital part of our show, she was a beloved part of our Extra family and touched the entire staff. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends.”
Kryst provided commentary at last month’s Miss Universe pageant, which called her “one of the brightest, warmest, and most kind people we have ever had the privilege of knowing. Our entire community mourns her loss.”
University of South Carolina praised the former student-athlete, calling her “a woman of many talents.” Kryst also held an MBA from Wake Forest University.
According to police, Kryst’s body was found at approximately 7 a.m. Sunday in front of the Orion building, a high-rise on West 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan.

She has been a symbol of hope , positivity , power and strength . Her demise will leave a lot of questions among her friends and followers … This is not to be taken lightly , the entire society is responsible for these sort of incidents. Since she was a celebrity we came to know this and what about the growing number of youngsters who are resorting to taking their lives. A huge loss to the entire world . We are living in a world of technology and abundance , then what's wrong ? We need to give it a serious thought …

my favourite footage of this amazing woman is her workout video without makeup , she didn't need it , she was sexy and amazing without it.

She is so gorgeous! I wish she wouldn't have jumped from that building. But I guess even the beautiful have problems. She didn't deserve to die such a death. I only pray that Jesus forgave her suicide and offered her peace. Hopefully she's now in heaven and is happy. May God Bless her and may her memory live on. God Bless her family as well and I am sorry for their loss!
So sad. Depression is real, u never know what someone is going thru. Ive been battling mine for 20 years now and im only 38..i went and got help tho. So ive been on meds for half of my life. I just heard a spirit box reading and her spirit spoke through and said she was indeed murdered by a man. It words came in this order. She was upstair with a man. He was touching on her. Then he hit her and threw her over the railing. It was for money. The security guard wrote her last ig post. They cut the footage from the security cameras. Her mom was behind the whole thing. She didnt write a suicide note.00
