In 1995, the award-winning documentary Painted Babies sent shock waves around the world as it lifted the lid on child beauty pageants: a world of stolen childhoods fuelled by parental ambition. Twelve years on, acclaimed British documentary maker Jane Treays revisits her original subjects – Asia Mansure and Brooke Breedwell – who are now 17, and charts how their lives have changed. By cutting back to their lives as inarticulate and compliant five-year-olds, a fascinating portrait emerges of pageant life, ambition, class and culture.

  1. Absofreakinglutely vomit-inducing. The cost of those dresses, the attitudes, the false smiles, the me-me-me, the chemicals used in the make-up and hairspray on young skin, the sheer exploitation, the stresses… this is parenting done bad…on an exponential level!!!

  2. These kids are groomed. They dont win for themselves, they win for their parents. Atheletes are the same, except they have a positive outcome. Train when they're young and proceed to be great. Beauty pageants are " groom while young and nothing else". As a parent this is shameful.

  3. These parents really don't know what they are doing to their little girls. God didn't mean for children to be raised this way, teaching them sexually provocative behavior and the love of material possessions. What important moral lessons did they learn growing up? The sexualization of young girls by all the make-up and teaching them seductive dance moves is criminal. I imagine these contests are still going on. If so they should be outlawed.

  4. Asia Still can't sing though..But still Beautiful have watched you on docos since you were young…
😍😍 but could and still can't get my head around it..
It's something i would never put my kids through

  5. it's funny listening to the mother's, and they say "we worked very hard to win". well, no honey, your child worked hard and won. you didn't win a damn thing except being laughed at and reviled as the dreaded pageant mom. they seem to confuse their daughter's efforts and success with their own. the girls performed and won, you were in the audience.

  6. I don't know why everyone in this video seems so annoying xD (btw I just found Asia's mom on Facebook and she's a Trump supporter Lmaaoooooo)

  7. Poor Brooke having to lie and be nice about this… Check out the interview she did as an adult… she HATED pageants and resented her mother to the point where they have no real connection or bond anymore.. . I looked her up after I noticed that her smile didn't reach her eyes the way it did for Asia when talking about pageants..
