My earliest memory was from when I was 4, fishing on a boat near my grandmother's house. I specifically remember the plastic kiddie poles me and my godbrother were using. I didn't catch anything, but he managed to pull in some "seaweed," and my grandmother joked that she would still cook it for dinner. I think the jealousy of my godbrother's catch was what made that specific moment stick in my head, but I'm sure you can find something poetic about the waves or the water in there too.
