  1. This is such a vague memory, as I was 7, but I recall just LOVING this and I always remembered the song. It’s so cool to see it again. I was so excited because Debbye Turner won from my home state, Missouri! I remember wanting so badly to be in pageants after seeing this and maybe for a few weeks I was determined to become a beauty queen (lol!) I so clearly remember asking my beloved babysitter, a college student, why, at 19, she wasn’t going all out to become a beauty queen as she was the prime age. I mean, WHY wouldn’t she want to?! I remember her answer was something like “not everyone wants to be in pageants—I’m studying to become a teacher.” Lol!!

  2. Back when the Miss America Pageant was a classy event.
I’ve never forgotten this segment, it was done so well. I miss the Scott Salmon Dancers, they were spectacular. Nice to see this again.

  3. That was a very special Miss America Pageant broadcast September 16, 1989. Debbie Turner was crowned Miss America 1990. "Lady In Red" was the best musical number I have ever seen in the pageant in years. High quality standards, production values. Good camermen. MIchelle Kline (Miss Pennsylvania) was who I was cheering for that year. She sang opera. Thank you socal0123 for sharing this clip on YouTube.
