  1. Thank you for doing this one! I will start with the Congrats to the sweet new titleholder and hope she has a great year and is able to achieve her dreams!

This might be a long comment because I also had so many thoughts. Growing up, Miss America was it. The Dream. And really still was until 2017 with Savvy. (Poor Cara.) But they have royally messed this pageant up. Part of the allure of M.A. was that she was a star and a well rounded, poised, intelligent lady. And now, the elegance and much of the poise has been taken away. Past Miss Americas were household names. And now, no one even knew the pageant happened. How do they plan to market to younger girls so they want to compete when you just have a BORING show… I agree with everything you said- Staging was horrible, the show was slow and dragged, Marketing was atrocious (coming from a graduated and practicing marketing specialist), it feels like the pageant was THROWN TOGETHER last minute. As for the semi final announcements, just leave it be. It's one of those things that no one asked to be changed. The gown competition being removed was a mistake. The tiktoks were VERY misplaced. Miss USA is by far coming out on top. I hate to say this but without changing things A LOT they will be irrelevant soon. This can only be described as a trainwreck.

  2. It…..was…..a….MESS!!! I spent 25 years in MAO as a volunteer. I walked away. It’s actually sad to see the lack of professionalism in this production. I’ve switched to Miss Volunteer America. Love your videos Dani.

  3. Brutally honest and one hundred percent on point. A colossal disaster of a "show." If they had any sense, they would get rid of the dead wood and seek your expertise, to try to turn things around.

  4. What's incredibly sad is that 48 out of 51 state competitions were better produced and executed than the 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF MISS AMERICA. If they don't fire the production team, marketing director and perhaps ask a few more board members to step down, it's gonna be another mass exodus of states, but this time, there are other systems these volunteers will flock to. I'm so sad about this.

  5. Sam Haskell brought Miss America back to network television after years on CMT, but new CEO Gretchen Carlson and staffer Mallory Hagan made several "Me-Too Movement" changes resulting in the elimination of swimsuit and evening wear competitions. Now both women are gone from the MAO staff and have left the pageant a huge mess.

  6. The Miss America Pageant's biggest mistake was moving it from its original home in Atlantic City, NJ. years ago. This year's show looked as if it was broadcast from the basement of a local church. I have been watching the MAP beginning in the late 1950s. This 100th anniversary pageant show was a first class spectacular failure. What is so wrong with seeing the contestants in evening gowns, which is no longer part of the show. Thankfully, telecasts of the MAP during its epic hey days of the 60s through 90s are available through YouTube videos. The MAP organization should be drop ashamed to put this mishaps show on video. These hard working, intelligent women in the 2021 show deserved better.

  7. Totally agree! The production quality was terrible. And for some reason the contestants' hair and makeup made them look much older. I didn't like the gowns or talent outfits either. I really hope they turn the pageant around to make it what it was. I also didn't like how they brought in 10 at a time in the intro and then announced two out of the 10 that made it to the top 10. It would be great if they brought back the evening gown and swimsuit competitions, and then make evening gown, swimsuit, talent, and interview count equally. Or maybe have interview count 50% in the preliminary and then have all four competitions count equally in the finals. But all in all, this year's pageant was disappointing. I felt bad for the contestants. You're right- the organization had two years to plan this- one would think it would be awesome but it wasn't even good. Maybe next year.

  8. You are 100% spot on, Dani! The best thing I can say about this year's "competition" (because it is NOT a pageant anymore) is at least it wasn't the dumpster fire the Dec. 2019 competition was. And poor Miss Alaska – she had no idea what to do once they crowned her – as if there were no rehearsals for that moment! Plus she didn't even get a bouquet of flowers, let alone the ROSES that are traditional for the new Miss America. All I can say is Oy Vey.

  9. I quit watching miss America like after 2016 2017 – give or take I loved the 2008 miss America because of the color group in that pageant and how the introduction was done really and truly they need bring that back if they bring that back along with swimsuit portion of it they need to fire everyone and hire me and you @dani Walker

  10. As a candidate of the MAO system I am very sad. I have this platform to promote my social cause, but the organization that I am tied to is a joke to most people. There are two camps of people: People who miss the way that Miss America used to be and hate that we are not a beauty pageant anymore, and the people who don’t realize that Miss America is not a beauty pageant anymore and make fun of/criticize us because of that. I personally don’t want to be a beauty queen and like the way the system is headed, but I know that is all people will ever see me as because Miss America is not doing enough to let people know what our program is. I have nothing against beauty queens and I know that they do a lot of good too, but that’s just not what I want to be. Miss America used to appear on GMA and the Live with Kelly and Ryan show. None of that happens anymore, so a lot of people don’t realize our program still exits. And when they do realize that Miss America is still a thing people mock and criticize us because they don’t realize we are not a beauty pageant anymore. But I don’t know if I can say that this horrible production and lack of advertising is completely Miss America’s fault. It’s kind of a reflection of our society. Once the swimsuit competition was gone we lost viewers. Since we lost viewers, we lost sponsors. What kills me is that we always see brands acting like they care so much about body positivity and feminism, if that’s the case we should have no problem getting sponsors right? Well I guess it’s all an act because I don’t see very many brands wanting to partner with Miss America.

Basically the message from society I’m getting is that people prefer to stare at me in a bikini than listen to me talk about my social impact initiative🤷🏻‍♀️

  11. Dani you are spot on and I'm still in shock on how this evening played out. As someone who every year for the last 25 plus years hosts a Miss America party, complete with the official Miss America Program that we order, we all were disgusted with the entire production. We were already disappointed in learning that our Miss Maine would not even be in the pageant, and then to witness this joke of a pageant was just awful. The hosts looked like they were ready for girls night out……NO CLASS at all. The Miss America Org needs to go back to their roots or risk losing EVERYTHING.

  12. I love how Miss America produced and continue to produce very smart and empowered women. The organizer/s is not concerned about superficiality which is the focus of other pageants. They are more into scholarship/ helping women fund their education. If the Miss America Organization will bring back its production quality before, the pageant will be miles ahead than the other pageants which has no clear advocacy or cause at all, just purely glitz & glamour.

  13. What in the world does… "I hope Miss America has a great year" mean? Doing what? I have never seen Miss America ANYWHERE doing ANYTHING except this one pageant. She appears to be like Punxsutawney Phil who makes one appearance a year (Feb 2). Yet the winner is solemnly warned "If you fail… the first runner up takes the crown…" I hope to heaven she does something meaningful like visit children in hospitals or badly wounded soldiers at Walter Reid…

  14. Dani you are so articulate & you speak so clearly.
You’re kind, diplomatic & with authority.
    I never watched Miss America
But i love listening to you
    Awesome
    Keep it up.

  15. I have a question, why have they been holding the Miss America pageant in states like Connecticut and Las Vegas? Why not keep it in Atlantic City New Jersey? The home of the Miss America pageant!

  16. I was there in person! The stage was well lit and we were able to see very well. It didn’t come through in the telecast, but the show was great in person! Wish it would have portrayed that in the telecast too.

  17. Please bring back the swimsuit competition and evening gown competition. Also needs to be on regular tv channels. It needs a male and female host. A host and hostess talking to the contestants behind the scenes. Also needs some kind of a performer to entertain.

  18. Some pageants rlly are the ones asking mobs to boycott them . Ain't no way this has happened…
If they wanna make it a scholarship competition , the should change the name and just make a very casual show/event to announce the winner . No need to get the girls all glammed up for nthg ! It looks ridiculous nd makes pageantry in gnl seems RIDICULOUS .

  19. Sadly, I think Miss America jumped the shark in the late 1990s-early 2000s when they started crowning “interview” queens. The TV audience was left puzzled since we didn’t get to see the interviews. So I think they decided we needed to hear them talk more and perform less…talent time was cut way down and swimsuit was cut completely. So now we “get” the winner but unfortunately it makes for a very dull show. I agree with Dani completely about the judge’s interview…they could have at least switched it up and had one question per contestant from each judge. The only way to save this pageant is to give it a complete overhaul. I understand the hesitancy in bringing back the swimsuit competition to a scholarship pageant…but that might be what it takes.
