Aside from promoting our tourism, the Miss Universe Philippines Organization also aims to promote and put forward Filipino textiles and weavings because these are treasures we can’t afford to lose. This is an industry we want to continue and help strengthen.
The theme for this year’s National Costume presentation is HABI (weaving) :
30% of our finalists’ costumes should be comprised of Philippine textiles or weaving.

I am overwhelmed by the costumes. Perhaps it's my age or not having been exposed to the current trend of fashion/costumes. I thought that some of them are very outlandish and surreal, almost comical. Some look like the contestants were coerced to wear them and pretend to look lovely. Some look ridiculous against the traditional flair and character of a Filipina. MY two cents.
