  1. I'm not a pageant contestant (just a pageant fan) but I found this video super interesting!
PS – Dani, I was wondering, did you end up meeting with Arnaud / Amandine (Miss France 2021) / Sylvie (Miss France director) at Miss Universe?

  2. My daughter invested several months ago in a made-to-order pageant gown. That gown was ordered in a Barbie bubblegum pink color, but when it was delivered it was in a completely different color – red/purple/fuchsia pink – we called it “fruit salad on fire”! We are not sure where the mixup occurred – but the gown was not returnable and we could not afford a second one. Yikes! We took it home and decided to treat it as a “happy accident “ rather than a mistake. Fast forward to pageant finale – best gown and the national title!!!

  3. Also loved this episode! Everything you were saying is so true. It’s funny because I’ve been told the one thing I need to do is focus on my styling. Especially being 20 and this being only my second year in the miss division I’m always told I need to look older and not teen! 😫

  4. I had a really bad experience with a designer this year for my pageant. I had told her what I wanted and gave her the deadline that I needed the dress. She let me do payments so I paid her in full in about 3 months. Month and months go by and she never sent me one progress picture or anything. I would try to get ahold of her and she wouldn’t reply until weeks later. It took me a year and like 3 months to finally get the dress but that was after my director had to call her for her to actually take me serious. When I got the gown the measurements were all wrong and the material was just not what it looked like. The fabric and stitching was so poorly done that I wasn’t even able to get it fixed by a seamstress. I had paid $700 for that dress and I had to get a whole new dress which was another $700. I paid it all on my own working a minimum wage job. But you live and learn and I learned to never go to a random person even if they’re a state pageants sponsor 😫

  5. Thank you for this video! I was surprised to learn that you didn't love the gown you won in at first, but you added your own touches. It was beautiful by the way, and it really made you look like the Queen on that stage! When I was thinking about what to wear for my pageant (it's a Mrs. category) I really struggled finding something that was 1. pageant worthy 2. for a curvy woman 3. didn't look like Mother of the Bride or trying to look too young. The struggle was real! I was thinking about wearing my "peacock dress" that I've received lots of compliments on, but I had to get real with myself that it wasn't right for the pageant. After several dresses tried on, I finally found my winner – and I won.

  6. I have the opposite experience when I was younger. When I showed my mom the sportswear my coach prepared for me for the competition, my mom disapproved of it and I had to buy clothes just hours before the competition all the way to the capital city. The formal wear was something I picked myself (ignored my coach’s suggestion) and the talent show outfit was prepared by my coach. In the end, everyone, including myself, loved all the clothes my family and I prepared. My coach was like, why didn’t you get the formal attire I told you to get?? But then after that, my friend’s coach whispered to me that the judges loved it. After the pageant some people were talking about my talent show outfit that they saw it in other pageant and that it was reused. I can’t help but think if I had other coach, I wasn’t just a first runner up.

Long story short, even though I ended up as first runner up, I was happy because I wore what I wanted to wear and the audience loved it. Left an unsatisfying feeling when I wore and did something I was told to wear and do, and people didn’t like it. I think it’s pageant contestant’s responsibility to know what’s appropriate and what’s gonna work in her system. Gown FOR the CROWN.

  7. Preparing for the pageant,, Gowns are really a huge huge thing in the evening gown portion. Bcoz that's where the queens are made of.. It is so very very very important that the candidate and the designer has the communication plan in making the evening gown. Both should and must collaborate. Designers must not an asshole for deciding alone with the design of the gown bcoz in the end of the day they're not the one who's competing and they're not the one who will wear the gown..

  8. I really agree with you. Pageants have difference inclinations when it comes to styling. Sometimes they even gravitate toward a certain look or color palette, and gowns can sway the judges a little bit towards deciding who is crowning material. Gowns and styling in general should be in line with which organization or pageant you are competing in, and candidates should understand what the total package is for these pageants. There is always a way to cater to what the organization is looking for while keeping your personal branding intact. ❤❤❤
