  1. There's no way you believe a claw clip is appropriate for a pageant. There must be pageant advice videos somewhere on YouTube. I'm Indian and I'd love to see you succeed but I'm not sure what you're trying to do with your entry – is it like some sort of activism against the system and norms of pageants? I get respecting Indian culture and heritage but its almost as if you want to show you're not apart of the community you live in. Can people even relate to you and are you a good represtative and embassador of Utah? Isn't that what they look for as their queen? I just think you're trying too hard to stick out like a sore thumb and be a Miss India in Utah instead of Miss Utah.

  2. Tbh, neither of these feels pageant appropriate. If you want an updo, definitely try to make it a bit fancier. You could take inspo from early 2000s Indian pageant queens like Aishwariya Rai or Sushmita Sens looks for Miss World/Universe.

  3. Hi! Miss Mission USA Elite here (Iā€™m also a pageant Hair+MUA). You can def do a slicked back pony on stage, but I might find another way to bring the fluff without the claw clip. Try the viral voluminous ponytail hack (where you make a couple ponys going down your head and make them look like one) for a similar effect.

Since youā€™re competing in Miss America, know that they tend to skew more on the conservative end when it comes to hair and makeup. Watch as many past state and national competitions as you can to get an idea of how different hairstyles are received.

Above all, go for what makes you feel like YOUR best self. No one wants Pageant Patty anymore and if you feel the most inner shine coming out with your pony, then ROCK THE PONY!!

Lindsey Coffey, Miss Earth 2020, won her international crown with a BOMB slick pony. I won my national title with a slicked back pony and I placed silver in swimwear at the international pageant with one.

Iā€™m cheering for you the whole way and if you ever want to chitchat about pageants, I would be more than happy to volunteer the experience that I have to help you out! I love the energy youā€™re bringing to the competition and I know if you keep bringing your amazing, bubbly, authentic self, youā€™re going to capture the crown.

  4. Coming from a pageant girl of 7+ and mom is a certified coach, the first one is most likely to casual but it looks cute though šŸ˜Š
Also the messy bun is also to causal.
Over all I do think for formal and interview a slick back-braid, some kind of bun, pony, exc. would be good! But be sure to play around with it and change it up a bit each competition:)

  5. OK as someone who does pageants overall people with her hair down, tend to score better. And it often helps if you stick out so if you do something different to your hair, itā€™ll help the judge remember you! And as someone is good at interviews. It helps you like talk about something that happened to you and that doesnā€™t happen to everyone so you stick out, just donā€™t say too many crazy things! I hope this helps!

  6. I definitely think that the claw clip and the messy bun are too casual for a pageant. I like the look of the ponytail, but maybe a similar effect could be achieved with teasing the ponytail, adding more ponytail holders, or adding a decorative cuff or barette. Good luck!
