Pretty sure the “7 year old boy” mentioned is 12 year old Ally Jete Marc Jacobs. I could be wrong, but they’re receiving a lot of attention right now for what you described. They are managed by their mom and she is in attendance for everything Ally does.
I think the reason this is happening now is that before gay people were allowed to exist alongside straight culture but were expected to stay in their own box, in stereotypes and in queer culture. Now that queer culture is mainstream and people are less willing to pretend they are straight, it makes straight people scared that they aren't the majority that holds the power to control all the narratives. The fact that queer people have power, money, authority, rights and intrinsic value is scary to the people who live in the headspace of hierarchies where their own value is tied only to who they can believe they are better than.

Hold up. Women do not get killed more than men in Horror. The ratio is insane. However, the whole final girl trope works because they kill the men/protection off, and keep the final girl because it forced both genders to relate to the vulnerability of the girl. Men are typically cannon fodder in horror.
