I always feel that the movie Tarnation has never really had the acclaim it deserves. It's a bit of a difficult movie in the sense that you're brought into this real life person's world through their home video/talk show where they're kind of in drag, taking on the persona of a guest on a talk show, talking about what they survived, but they're speaking from their mother's point of view. There are possible mental health issues due to the trauma of witnessing domestic abuse, so it's not exactly light hearted but it is breathtaking. I loved To Wong Foo, it's been one of my favorite movies…
I believe one of the reasons they stayed in drag was to “fool” everyone, and staying at someone else’s home is hard to hide. At least that’s what I thought how that was explained.
