Ex-Myanmar beauty queen Htar Htet Htet has joined the rebels after a military coup sparked nationwide protests. Htar Htet Htet represented Myanmar in the Miss Grand International pageant in 2013. Since April, she’s been training in a jungle, learning guerilla-style tactics and how to shoot with a gun.

“I’m scared, but I need to fight them,” says Htar Htet Htet, despite missing her family and friends.

Myanmar beauty queens Han Lay of this year’s Miss Grand International and Thuzar Wint Lwin of Miss Universe 2021 have also spoken out against the military.

Myanmar’s junta has moved the nation’s civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi and ex-president Win Myint from their residences in the capital to an “unknown location,” according to allies who’ve expressed serious concerns for their safety.

The two have been held by the country’s powerful military since it seized power in a coup on Feb. 1.

“We’ve heard from reliable sources that President Win Myint and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi have been moved to another unknown location,” the shadow government formed by Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party and allies, also known as the National Unity Government, said in a statement.

Suu Kyi, who once defended the military’s brutal crackdown on Rohingya minorities at the International Court of Justice, is facing six criminal charges including violating state secrets and incitement. Win Myint is also charged with incitement and breaching Covid-19 restrictions.

The head of the legal defense team for both leaders, Khin Maung Zaw, said Suu Kyi had told lawyers during a meeting before her court appearance on May 24 that she had been moved one night earlier to an unfamiliar location.

“After the court hearing, we lawyers have no contact with her at all,” he said. “She’s a much-loved leader of our state so we have been extremely concerned about her safety since Day 1, and such concerns are still there.”

Labeling the regime a “terrorist military council,” the National Unity Government reiterated its efforts to ensure accountability and justice and urged the junta to take responsibility for their actions after the coup and against ethnic nationalities.

  1. We support the people of Burma for their democratic rights and freedom of speech. The Burmese military is in cahoots with the CCP and suppressing the democratic movement. Please take care. You will be victorious in the end!

  2. If the Burmese people and International supporters are serious about defeating the military, they would have to calls for volunteers (preferably with military experiences) from around the globe Spanish Civil War Style. Grant them citizenship (to avoid mercenary charges) and really slog it out head on.

But we know that in reality, most fight only occurs on Key Board.

  5. Well there is way… YOU guys need to ….
It is comfortable to beat & kill UnArmed citizens… if govt. people have stick and I don’t have, it’s easy to hurt me right ? BUT, is it not a common sense that authority is forcing Citizens to react?

  6. Imagine the government brutally killed your own family members who are unarmed and did nothing wrong who are just protesting peacefully. What decision will you make when you have no hope from your government

  7. hope myanmar army stops the take over, this is just BS it's already 2021! the world can see what you're doing to myanmar citizens! stop the oppression. you work for the citizens they pay for your salary and your arms etc not the other way around! you should serve myanmar citizens! im not from myanmar and my heart goes out to you guys! stay strong, stay safe! praying for myanmar to get their democracy back.. i hope the international community could do more for myanmar.. 🙏

  8. Why take up arms against the military, then show your face to endanger the
family and fiends you love so much? the coup will eventually phase out after ,
awhile, the wanton loss of lives was all for nothing, the common man will never win
against the army, most governments are corrupt, be it government, or opposition

  9. Feel so sorry for them all 😔😖…I could tell just by looking at her facial expressions that they are going through real hard and painful moment right now. And on top of that, they have little hope that the U.N would back them up and help them..but all the hopes they had seems to be in vain. Plus it sometimes looks as if china is running the U.N or the U.N is afraid of china..😣😤
