the Santacruzan is typically a procession of beauties personifying saints or icons usually led by Queen Helena or Reyna Elena escorted by a young man. It is held as the culmination of the month-long Flores de Mayo.

Santacrusan is a Philippines tradition which happens every May (or Flores de Mayo or flowers of May). It's actually honoring the founding of the Holy Cross, which Jesus, was crucified by Helen of Constantine (Reyna Elena) and King Constantine and also honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary at the same time. It was started centuries ago when Philippines was a colony of Spain.
Santa Cruzan or Flores De Mayo A Spanish term since Philippines was colonized by Spaniards the tradition still part of it until now and this is an example.

The Filipino community's version of Flores de Mayo, also known as "Santacruzan," gave Israelis a glimpse of one of the biggest and most colorful festivals held across the country during the entire month of May. I believe the each contestant pick numbers to which character they will portray.

Santacruzan is different from flores de mayo. Flores de mayo is paying homage to mary mother of God and flowers, while santacruzan pays tribute and remembering to Reyna Elena (queen elena) for finding the cross that Christ was Crucified in.

Every month of May we do Flores de Mayo. In devotion to blessed virgin Mary. Its like f estival of beauty, Reyna Elena is the queen, also Reyna Emperatriz while doing a parade many people of the dancing together eith drums or sound system.
I really admire these ladies who can manage to smile sweetly in the midst of Manila heat. The Philippines has two seasons: hot and hotter. Even when it rains, it's still hot. While the rest of the country are wearing shorts and t-shirts, these beautiful ladies are wearing heavy, thick gowns. I definitely have great admiration for them and hopefully they didn't suffer much.
All of these dresses can be worn at the recent MET Gala. Amazing.
Santa Cruzan is part of the month of May festivity among other things like Fiesta where in each bario/barangay/city celebrates the assigned saint to them by preparing all sorts of foods and delicacies and invite friends to come and celebrate, including strangers too, basically a big party with religion injected into it. This happens all over the Philippines. The Santa Cruzan’s criteria would be Filipiniana + religious aspect + fun/creativity. Mary Jane Lastimosa’s National costume was like regional/provincial Santa Cruzan level, but she carried it well and it was colorful, it looked good on stage and on tv, unlike Pia’s it was couture although lacked color.
The visuals and the aesthetics of these gowns were far much superior than some of our National Custome our delegates in Miss Universe had presented. Fight me!

All these dresses are so gorgeous, what i don't understand is why do they have make ridiculous looking natcos for the international pageants when they can use any of these. These are way better.
This a combination of two festivals. One is Flores de mayo which is the parade of flowers which are in full bloom in the month of may. The othe is a religious festival the Santa Cruzn commemorating the finding of the real cross that Jesus was crucified on by the mother of Emperor Constantine, St. Helena. And so it is a parade of beauties each with their handsome escorts. Usually it is done early evening so that people lined the two sides walking with torches to put as much lifht on the ladies to showcase their beauty. At the end of the procession is the Queen, Reyna Elena, and her escort is just a boy to represent the Emperor Constantine. As the parade marches on, the Hail Mary. is sung in Spanish accompanied by guitars or even a band
In many Santacruzans the role of Emperor Constantine, Queen Helena's son, and the little boy consort to the barrio's most beautiful lass who herself plays Reyna Elena, has been mostly forgotten. In most, he has sadly disappeared. This edition of the annual mini-event within Bb. Pilipinas is no exception. The candidate carrying rings around each elbow to which a garland of flowers is attached to has two girls carrying bouquets of flowers alongside her and this represents the Iloilo Province's tradition of the Flores de Mayo where children offer flowers to the Virgin Mary at churches, and that's a good touch.
Flores De Mayo (Flowers of May) is done in May when we offer flowers to Mother Mary and celebrate her all month long, hence why they have Mary's crown as well as it is mostly florals, Santa Cruzan is a procession (parade) of Queens done at the end of Flores the Mayo (end of May)
The last lady’s dress could also be worn as a bridal gown 👰🏼♀️
It is Flores de Mayo… flores means flowers. It is from our Spanish heritage. That is why there are many flowers
