The Al Dhafra Festival celebrates the “essence of Bedouin life,” traditions that are often overshadowed by the glitz and glam of the UAE’s larger cities. Camels are the heart of this festival, as they were the heart of life for the Emirati people — the difference between death and survival in the vast desert. I visited the 2023 Al Dhafra Festival in Abu Dhabi and learned just how much goes into camel pageantry.
